Crews ready to respond as arctic front moves into state

Entergy Louisiana crews are closely watching this next round of winter weather and are ready to respond to outages that may occur due to the extreme cold and icy conditions expected in the coming days.

The cold front moving into Louisiana tonight is bringing with it freezing temperatures and a chance for snow and ice across much of the state.

Freezing precipitation can accumulate on power lines, trees and tree branches, causing the vegetation to sag into power lines and cause outages.

Also, power outages can take longer to restore in cases of extreme cold, as heaters and other electrical appliances can cause overloading of the system, forcing crews to slowly bring the power back online. Learn more about the challenges of the cold weather restoration process here.

Customers should take steps to prepare before the temperatures dip too low. Learn how you can prepare for winter weather beginning on page 18 of our Operation: Storm Ready guide.
