Wintry precipitation and frigid temperatures are quickly making their way south in Louisiana.

Customers should take all winter weather precautions and keep safety at the forefront. Remember, never use an oven or stove top to heat your home. Also, use space heaters appropriately and safely. You can find additional safety tips from the National Fire Protection Association here.

Winds associated with the winter blast and snow and ice formations can damage electrical equipment. The extra weight of snow and ice on power lines and trees can make them snap. In either case, power can be interrupted and you should be prepared for any possible outages.

Also, power outages can take longer to restore in cases of extreme cold, as heaters and other electrical appliances can cause overloading of the system, forcing crews to slowly bring the power back online. Learn more about the challenges of power restoration in cold weather.

Crews are ready to safely respond as needed.
